Meet the current Hatch Patch host,
Patricia (Pat) Patterson.

Patricia (Pat) Patterson, is the current host of the Hatch Patch. Pat’s major fields of interest in gardening involve Entomology in all its aspects, edible crops mixed with floral crops, pharmacognosy, edible wild plants and mushrooms, using insects as food, soil and soil life.

Some of her gardening experience includes: running an orchid and bromeliad nursery in Noti for 10 years; involvement with the Oregon Master Gardener Association since its inception;  publishing gardening articles in a national publication; judging vegetables and flowers at several fairs; certification by the OSU Master Gardener training program in 1976; teaching in all of the fields covered by the Master Gardener training program and attending innumerable workshops and seminars on various aspects of horticulture, alternative agriculture, small livestock and household pests.

Pat and her husband have over 2,000 sq. feet of growing space in raised beds at home where she tries different crops and techniques. 700 sq. feet of this is presently under greenhouse. Her husband’s favorite garden is the transitional Japanese Garden below their home. Pat has done quite a bit of work with different styles of heat enhancers for the garden. Their gardening preference is organic.

Pat’s other hobbies include walking in the woods, mushrooming, spinning, knitting, felting, weaving, photography, reading, and traveling almost anywhere.  Her husband shares many of the same interests and they particularly like to go tide pooling or forest walking.

Pat and her husband have traveled extensively and have spent time in South and Central America, Mexico, Egypt, Southeast Asia, India, Europe, the Philippines and Turkey. They enjoy contact with new cultures, meeting people and learning some of the local language. Pat says that she is especially interested in the gardening and small scale agricultural practices of other countries.
